It’s been a good week on the farm, thank you for supporting us by investing in our fresh local produce. We are now irrigating our produce with our Kifco water reel, 2500 sweet potatoes, tomatoes, 7 herbs, Japanese eggplant, radishes and new lettuce today. The greenhouse was planted last week, and our
seeds started coming up in 4 days. We will have nice salad greens until Christmas! Heidi and Geraldine have been good dependable help! “Fall has fallen,” and September is my favorite month…! On Friday the 27th I will be 66… on Saturday the 28th our daughter Ashley gets married. Nights are cool for good sleep and days are mild to finish our crops. The smell of gunpowder is in the air, for grouse and October pheasants, and walleyes will start moving up shallow and biting on chubs and raps, football is on and I’m taking bets on the Jacks and Coyotes game… okay our CSA this week has: loads of tomatoes, and melons, lots of squash, sugar pie pumpkins, and radishes, eggplants, Okra, beets and a few carrots, lots of herbs, flowers, apples, and pears. The soil is really dry, everything needs a big rain! We may have harvest on sweet potatoes, and brussel sprouts next week. Sam’s soil building cover crop looks really good as do the 500 new broccolis that should be ready by mid late October. About a year ago we changed our CSA shares from 20 weeks (summer growing season only) to yearly, with the addition of the greenhouse production (12 more weeks). 20+12= 32 weeks. We hope each of you will renew your share investment in our “Heikes Farm fresh local produce” when it’s due… Heidi has a record when each of you bought your share. Just ask us when you come on Saturday. We are here for you and your family’s fresh local produce nutrition needs because of your investment in our Community Supported Agriculture.
Thank you,
Sam and Heidi
