Dear Friends and shareholders,
Your CSA investment is really growing in winter… “Evergreen” in the all Season High Tunnel! Tonight I watered again… everything is now up: 1st lettuce and kale, 2nd spinach, 3rd radish and arugula, 4th up finally carrots and red leaf salad beets. We have had numerous bright sunny days less than 30 degrees outside… with inside temps approaching near 90 degrees, problem is cold night time slows growth. Finally all is up now, so you will have wonderful spring salad greens! Chef Kirk at the Red Steakhouse has listed our Spring Salad greens in his new menu as “Farmer Sam’s Salad Greens” … I like that! Last week Saturday we had a nice time in Sioux Falls at the Pomegranate Markets “Celebrate Goodness,” the place was full from 10-3pm. We gave out honey samples, and got to visit with lots of nice customers. We also will now be providing “Heikes Farm Fresh Produce” to the “Bros Brasserie downtown on Philips Ave. in Sioux Falls this summer, a new commercial share. Our CSA share renewals are still coming in… thank you! Our 2013 goal is 80 personal shares, and 25 commercial shares. Remember every new CSA shareholder you bring in will reduce your renewal share cost by 10%.
Watch for our new spring ad in the Equalizer and the Broadcaster “spring ag special.” The first day of spring is March 20th. Last year we planted potatoes and onions on March 15th. Don’t think they will be in that early this year. Please pray for rain
Sam and Heidi Heikes
