Yesterday’s Sunday afternoon temperature was near 50°, and in the greenhouse we were near 90°… after the 3rd watering all our spring greens have now germinated : lettuce and kale is up, everything else is coming, forecast temperature tonight is -4°… outside to inside that 85° in 24 hours. This afternoon we put up wire hoops and Agribon Row covers over each of the 6 new 30” beds in our spring greenhouse production: 3 way Leaf Lettuce Mix, and Red Kale is up, Beets, Spinach, Radishes and Sweet Winter Carrots and Arugula is coming, Now under a warming blanket. If we can keep growing conditions above 32° looks like we should have abundant spring greens by April.
This coming Saturday the 23rd Pomegranate Market in Sioux Falls is having an open house “Celebrate Goodness” from 10 am to 2pm on South Louise Ave near Spezia’s.. you are welcome to come!
Our 2012 Shareholders totaled around 50 people from spring to fall. To date not all have renewed their shares according to our records. We would like to know who is going to renew! If you have already renewed… Thank you! Our spring planting may only be a month away. We have a sweet incentive for all of you… Heikes Family Farms “Raw Local Honey”… Come and get it!
Finally in the depth of winter’s cold we continue to look for spring greens. We hope to continue our personal relationship with each of our CSA shareholders and our local community this coming year, based around the local Farm Fresh Produce we grow and share of the abundance with those that are less fortunate.
