The warm calm before the storm today was wonderful! Greenhouse temp at 2pm was 85! I expect radishes and lettuce to be up soon, the rest should follow. That should have us fresh salad greens by April. The last of our Heikes Farm Honey came in today (12 oz. /1# plastic squeeze containers) For each shareholder that renews their share for this next year gets a free jar of honey, and for those shareholders that have renewed and want honey get a free jar as well. Remember, your new share is good for 12 months 8 of which you can expect to get fresh produce from Vermilions CSA, Your Heikes Family Farm LLC. Farm work continues in the shop, planning our composting, and working on our field production and irrigation plans. I’m shopping for a used walk in cooler and for a potato digger: for onions, beets, carrots, and garlics. We hope to build a big root cellar to keep quality on rootstock well into the winter for shareholders.
Our commercial share sales interest continues to grow in the Sioux Falls Market. We will be at the Pomegranate Market’s spring event Saturday February 23 from 10-2 promoting our Farm Fresh Natural Produce from the Heikes Farm. Our sales goal for 2013 in our new business plan is 80 personal shares and 25 commercial shares. We hope to have ½ of those confirmed by the 1st day of spring next month. We will offer early order discounts on new shares. We know our best advertising is our satisfied loyal customers.
Sincerely Sam and Heidi Heikes
