The change this week and cold nights have really slowed the greenhouse growth. We finally finished cleaning up dead fall trees in the farmstead grove!
We got some nice dry green ash firewood, and have had several big smoked controlled burns. I’d like to run some sheep in the grove at some time and maybe have fat lamb for our CSA. I found an old single row pull type potato, onion, and beet digger that will help our harvest.
Yes we had some mud before the re freeze up. No the new asparagus has not emerged yet. We are very happy with the new spring interest in our CSA shares! We recently have sold 7 more personal shares…Thank you and we welcome our new shareholders. We have also had 13 current shareholders renew their shares! Thank you… as well. remember the 1st day of spring on the calendar or by the moon is tomorrow Wednesday March 20th, which has also been a share sign up goal for us. The way this weather looks it’s not going to feel much like spring! But I know it is coming. That is okay we still have a lot of prep to do before we go to the field this year, with a much bigger planting plan, and more shareholders. Big week for my SDSU Jacks basketball NCCA teams, go jacks! Boys in Michigan, and Girls in Colorado. Please continue to pray for moisture this season, our current sub soil profile is
starting out 8-10” below normal!
Irrigation will be very important for CSA production this year!
P.s. We still have some Heikes Farm raw
local honey left for you!
Sincerely, Sam and Heidi Heikes
