The summer equinox came and went last week with beautiful summer weather. With all the daylight and soil moisture our crops are growing rapidly. Sunrise to sunset makes for long workdays; we have replanted a lot lately: herbs, parsley, mustard, dill, basil, kale, chard, lettuce, spinach, arugula, carrots and parsnips. Tomorrow we will replant beets, more parsnips, sugar snap peas, and summer squash.
We will have share distribution on Saturday with lots of nice radishes, garlic scapes, herbs, and rhubarb.
For your information our total planting this year includes:
2000# seed potatoes (4 varieties)
9000 onions sets (3 varieties)
1000 leeks
50# certified organic garlic (4 varieties)
450 Tomato plants (23 varieties)
200 peppers (60% sweet-40% hot)

550 Brussels sprout plants)
365 cauliflower
300 packman broccoli
2000 certified Tennessee sweet potato plants
36 eggplant
36 spineless okra
50 hives of honey bees (doing great)
12 different herbs
lots of radishes
lots of green beans and wax beans
The only fruit tree we have this year is some pears and a few apples the late frost got the rest.
All of these plantings are on about 10 ac of the Heikes family farm, that’s 3 ac more than last year, lots and lots of work. We now have good sub moisture, but our topsoil is getting a little dry after 3 cultivations. I hope it rains on our new plantings this weekend!
See you Saturday 10-2pm
